The Niger State government has announced the suspension of traditional Sallah festivities, including Hawan Bariki and Durbar, as a mark of respect for the victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa.
The devastating flood has claimed over 200 lives, left more than 500 people missing, and destroyed over 3,000 homes, displacing thousands of residents.
“This is one of the worst flood incidents the state has seen in decades. The loss of life and property has been enormous, and the governor believes it is only fitting to use this Sallah period for mourning, prayer, and reflection,” said Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government.
