Nigeria has emerged as the top African exporter of crude oil to the United States between January and August 2025, according to the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.
A statement shared on the official X handle of the U.S. Mission on Tuesday revealed that 33.23 million barrels of Nigerian crude oil, valued at $2.57 billion, were shipped to the U.S. during this period. This represents more than half of all African crude oil exports to the U.S. in 2025.

The statement added that the robust trade relationship between Nigeria and the United States generates jobs and fosters economic prosperity on both continents.
In related developments, the U.S. Agricultural Counselor, Chris Bielecki, projected that agricultural trade between the two nations is expected to reach $700 million in 2025.
Meanwhile, data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that Nigeria’s imports of crude oil from the United States surged by 153% in the first nine months of 2025, highlighting a growing bilateral energy exchange.
