Nigeria Move up in Latest FIFA Ranking Despite Round Of 16 Elimination in Last AFCON

Nigeria Move up in Latest FIFA Ranking Despite Round Of 16 Elimination in Last AFCON | Daily Report Nigeria

Super Eagles of Nigeria are just two places below Senegal in Africa on the new FIFA ranking.

In spite of being eliminated at the round of 16 of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria national football team are ranked third by FIFA.

However, the three-time AFCON winners are 32nd in the world ranking.

Meanwhile, the Lions of Teranga, winners of the last AFCON who appeared on the top list occupy the 18th spot in the world ranking.

Augustine Eguavoen’s men had a very impressive start to the last AFCON having won all their group stage matches against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

They were however, found under par after being forced out of the tournament by Tunisia in the knockout stage.

Below is the Africa table as ranked by FIFA:

  1. Senegal and 18th in the world

  2. Morocco and 24th in the world

  3. Nigeria and 32nd in the world

  4. Egypt and 34th in the world

  5. Tunisia and 36th in the world
