Nigeria Police Force Denies Return of SARS

  • NPF has denied reports of the return of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

  • According to Force PRO, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, SARS remains dissolved, and reports of its return are mere rumors and misinformation.

  •  The Police spokesperson urged Nigerians to verify information before accepting it as true and to follow official Police social media handles for accurate updates.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed reports circulating about the return of the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

In a statement on Monday titled “DISCLAIMER: SARS REMAINS DISSOLVED – FPRO,” Force PRO, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, described the reports as rumors and misinformation.

Adejobi emphasized that SARS, which was disbanded on October 11, 2020, remains dissolved. He cautioned Nigerians to verify the source of any information before accepting it as true.

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent information regarding SARS reformation and rules of engagement should be treated with caution,” Adejobi warned.

To ensure accurate updates, Adejobi advised citizens to follow the official handles of the Nigeria Police Force on social media.

PSC Clarifies Limited Mandate Over Inspector-General of Police

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has stated that it has no constitutional powers to determine the appointment or removal of the Inspector-General of Police.

This clarification comes after public commentators suggested that the PSC’s recent directive on police retirement should also apply to the Inspector-General.
