Nigerians are now ranked fifth globally for social media usage, spending an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes daily on various platforms, according to recent data from Cable.co.uk and We Are Social for 2024.

This positions Nigeria just behind Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, and the Philippines, which lead the chart with averages of 3 hours and 43 minutes, 3 hours and 37 minutes, 3 hours and 34 minutes, and 3 hours and 33 minutes respectively.

The statistics highlight Nigeria’s significant engagement in the digital landscape, as social media continues to play a crucial role in communication and information dissemination.

Other countries noted for high social media consumption include Colombia, Chile, and Indonesia, with usage times ranging from 3 hours and 22 minutes to 3 hours and 11 minutes.

In contrast, nations like Ghana, Egypt, and Thailand report much lower engagement, averaging between 2 hours and 30 minutes to 2 hours and 43 minutes daily. Among European countries, Portugal, Romania, and Italy feature at the lower end of the spectrum, suggesting a notable regional disparity in social media habits.
