The Nigerian government has unveiled plans to introduce 2,700 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and tricycles before the middle of 2024.
It stated that the vehicles will not rely on petroleum products for fuel, marking a significant step toward more climate-friendly transportation.
Unlike petroleum obtained from crude oil, CNG has relatively low carbon emissions, making it an environmentally friendly alternative.
To facilitate the transition, the government promised to deliver at least 100 conversion workshops.

By promoting CNG-based vehicles, the Nigerian government joins other nations in the global effort to eradicate automobiles that emit excessive greenhouse gases.
Four major private sector plants Brilliant EV, Mojo, JET, and Mikano—are partnering with the government to make this initiative a reality.
Alongside the workshops, the government plans to establish 60 refueling sites across 18 states.
It added that the new assembly site is under construction at the Lagos/Ibadan expressway, where tricycle parts will be assembled. Brilliant EV, in particular, will focus on electric vehicle assembly.
The CNG vehicles will be available in Nigerian major cities and tertiary institution campuses.
