On Monday, the Nigerian Army launched the 2024 conversion exercise for 528 short and direct service officers in Jos.
Maj Gen Abdusalam Abubakar, President of the Conversion Board and General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, declared the exercise open.
The event, which runs from May 6 to May 19, allowed willing officers to convert to regular commission and direct regular commission, respectively.

Abubakar stressed the impact of the periodic exercise in officers’ career progression, particularly for those who wish to continue serving.

The 528 participating officers will undergo assessments in weapon handling, medical fitness, drills, oral interviews, and other areas.
He thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, for approving the exercise and warned candidates against cheating, bribery, and using enhancement drugs.
The President also advised them to be security conscious and report any suspicious activities for prompt action.
