A Nigerian family has been thrown into deep mourning after a mother of four, Oluranti Olufunmilayo Esther Akinyemi, died less than 20 hours after arriving in the United Kingdom to attend her child’s graduation ceremony.
Mrs Akinyemi, whose maiden name was Oluwalana/Ogundana, travelled to the UK filled with excitement and anticipation, hoping to celebrate a major academic milestone in her family. Sadly, the trip ended in tragedy.

According to information shared on X by SK the Plug, she arrived in the UK on February 11, 2026, ahead of her child’s graduation scheduled for February 18.
Family sources said she appeared healthy and cheerful after landing and showed no signs of illness. However, in the early hours of February 12, she reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
She was rushed to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, where medical personnel worked to stabilise her condition and placed her under close observation.
Mrs Akinyemi remained in a coma for three days as her family prayed fervently for her recovery. Tragically, she was declared clinically dead on February 14 — turning what was meant to be a joyful celebration into a devastating loss.
The heartbreaking development has left friends, relatives and members of the Nigerian community both in the UK and at home in shock. Many have described her as a devoted mother who travelled abroad solely to support and celebrate her child’s achievement.
Instead of preparing for a graduation ceremony, the family is now faced with the painful task of arranging her burial. Tributes have continued to pour in on social media, with many offering condolences and prayers for strength for her children and loved ones.
