According to Uwujaren, Bawa warned that the penalties against internet fraud were stiff as such, students to avoid all temptations that might lead them to join fraudsters.
The anti-graft chairman said:
“Every variant of internet fraud such as romance scam, business email compromise, hacking, impersonation, Forex scam and others are corrupt practices, and you must not engage in them
“As undergraduates, you are expected to channel your creative energies into useful engagements and not into dishonest and dubious means of cheating others of their resources.”
Speaking, the EFCC’s public affairs director, Osita Nwajah, encouraged the students to acquaint themselves with the ‘Operational Manual for Integrity and Zero Tolerance Clubs’- a guide for the club’s activities.
Also speaking, Aisha Mohammed, head of the enlightenment and reorientation unit, said the club was created to teach virtues of integrity, honesty, discipline, tolerance, and patriotism to the students.
On his part, the university’s registrar, Ibrahim Mohammed urged students to be upright by avoiding crimes and criminality at all costs.
He said:
“There is nothing more important than integrity. Integrity may not give you money today, but it is going to put you on the path to success. Money always comes.
“It may not come in your early life, but if you work hard with integrity and are steadfast, you will succeed; you will make money than you ever believed in your life. You will be able to afford all the things you want and walk with your head high up as an important and respected member of society without engaging in fraud.”

I Went Into Robbery For My Mother’s Burial — Suspect
Emmanuel Chinagorom, a robbery suspect in a Delta State community has revealed why he committed the crime.
24-year-old Chinagorom was arrested by members of the Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante Group in Agbor, Delta State, and subsequently confessed to the crime.
His reason, he said was because he needed to give his late mother, “whose body is lying in the mortuary, a befitting burial as the first son.”
The Abia State-born suspect who specialised in stealing phones and other valuable items in Agbor and its environs said:
“I enter shops pretending to patronise them but my aim was always to steal valuable items like phones. This is my first time in Agbor before I was caught.”
It was learnt that the suspect, who claimed to be an electrical technician was apprehended red-handed at a shop in the locality and was handed over to the vigilante group.
Chinagorom claimed he has a partner who was a northerner based in Asaba. He said his accomplice usually buys the stolen phones.
The suspect who pleaded for forgiveness disclosed he chose the path of stealing as he had no helper to assist him to start life.
The Chairman of Agbor Gha-Ihun Vigilante, Comrade Monday Kiyem, speaking to journalists said: “We would continue to ensure that Agbor and its environs remain unsafe places for criminals like the apprehended suspect.”
The vigilante chairman disclosed that during an investigation, they discovered several telecommunication SIM cards and phones in the suspect’s possession.
They later called some of his victims who confirmed that their phones were stolen at different places.
He said:
“Some of the victims who reside in Agbor have come to our office to identify their phones and narrated how the suspect came to their shops pretending to buy an item but ended up stealing their phones.
“I will hand Emmanuel over to the police for further investigation and bring his fleeing gang members to
book.”
