A corporal in the Nigerian Army, Ojo Ayodele has accidently killed himself and his presumed mistress following an suspected accidental discharge of his own firearm.

A military source revealed that the late Ojo was an operative of the “Operation Safe Haven” and was deployed to Rafin Sanyi duty location in Sopp village, Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.

He was found dead in a pool of blood, alongside his dead lover on Wednesday afternoon.

An internal memo by military authorities, suggests corporal Ojo must have “misfired” his rifle, leading to the death of himself and his lover.

While the memo disclosed that
“efforts to recover the corpses are in progress,” it noted that the reason for the sad incident was yet to be ascertained.

An army correspondence also revealed that the divisional police officer of Riyom Divisional Police Headquarters has been contacted on the matter as well.

Whether Ojo recently returned from a tour in the ongoing war against Boko Haram or not could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

Several officers of the Nigerian army have died on suicide related scenarios largely due to mental health degradation suffered as a result of extensive deployment in the Northeast.
