She warns Nigerians against unsafe migration, recalling her mother’s death while she struggled abroad.
A young Nigerian woman identified as Mercy, who earlier cried out on social media about the hardship she faced in Libya and hinted at ending her life, has returned safely to Nigeria after intervention by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
Her video, which quickly went viral, drew public concern and prompted immediate action from NIDCOM Chairperson, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who contacted leaders of the Nigerian community in Libya.
They were able to track Mercy and ensure her rescue before facilitating her journey back home.
On arrival in Nigeria, she was personally received by Dabiri-Erewa. Speaking emotionally about her ordeal, Mercy urged Nigerians not to travel out of the country without adequate preparation, stressing the dangers of irregular migration. “No matter the situation, don’t leave the country,” she said.

She revealed that her decision to travel was motivated by hopes of supporting her ailing mother, yet she was unable to send home even N5 during her stay. Tragically, her mother passed away before she could return.
Her experience has underscored ongoing concerns about the exploitation of Nigerians abroad and the human cost of unsafe migration routes.
