Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers’ president, Oladapo Olatunbosun has says majority of Nigerians are using unhealthy cooking methods.

Olatunbosun spoke on Channels Television’s 64th Independence programme, Channels Forum.

According to him, the Nigerian government’s long-standing neglect of liquefied petroleum gas led to his claim.

He stated that the lack of access to clean cooking methods increases medical bills and shortens lifespans.

Olatunbosun disclosed that Nigeria has substantial LPG deposits, but they remain inaccessible to most, forcing people to use undesirable alternatives.

LPG’s President argued that the focus on crude oil has led to most of Nigeria’s gas deposits being flared, perpetuating this issue.

He said:
I think the most essential aspect of energy that is critical to human beings is cooking energy, how do we process our food?

“And unfortunately in this part of the world, we neglected that aspect and the majority of Nigerians are cooking with means that are not preferable and that are not healthy for them.

They waste time, it shortens their lifespan, they increase medical bills because we don’t have access to a clean and the most acceptable means of cooking and that is LPG.”
