In a display of kindness, well-meaning Nigerians have donated at least N1 million to support Ismail Lasisi and Lukman Adeyemi, two ex-inmates who spent 24 years in prison for a crime they did not commit.

Lasisi and Adeyemi were arrested in August 2000 and sentenced to death in 2009 for the ritual killing of a woman they claimed to have no knowledge of.

In an emotional interview, they shared their harrowing experience, revealing that they were tortured into confessing to the crime.

Adeyemi said, “They promised to stop the torture if I confessed to the murder, and when I couldn’t take it anymore, I lied against myself to prevent further torture.”

The duo’s ordeal began when they visited a police station in Oyo State, following inquiries about Lasisi’s involvement in the crime. In a surprising twist, the herbalist arrested in connection with the murder was later released by the police, while another suspect reportedly died under torture.
