Nigeria’s women’s rugby team, the Green Falcons, made an impressive statement ahead of their participation in the upcoming World Rugby Series in Canada after crushing Ghana’s Leopards 40–0 in the opening match of their two-game international friendly series.

The encounter, held at the Alaro City Rugby Pitch in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, was filled with energy and excitement as the Green Falcons showcased total dominance from start to finish. Their tactical sharpness, teamwork, and fitness level left the Ghanaian side struggling to cope with their relentless pace.

Vera opened the scoring early in the match, powering across the try line before Rukky doubled Nigeria’s lead. Adeze successfully converted both tries to give the Falcons a comfortable 12–0 advantage before halftime.

In the second half, the Green Falcons kept up the pressure, adding more tries through Lauretta, Blessing U., Faustina, and Success. Adeze and Blessing completed the scoring with precise conversions, sealing a convincing 40–0 victory.

After the match, head coach Luke Shearman hailed the performance, describing it as a reflection of the team’s discipline and unity. “The players executed our plan with confidence and intensity,” Shearman said. “They played as one, and this is the energy we’ll carry to Canada.”

NRLA Vice Chairman, Ade Adebisi, praised the players for their mental strength, adding that the association is committed to developing rugby at the grassroots level. “This performance shows Nigeria is mentally ready. Beyond this, we are investing in the Under-19 program to build the future of Nigerian rugby,” he said.

General Manager, Isah, applauded the team’s preparation and focus, saying, “This team is born ready. They’ve shown what hard work and national pride can achieve.”

Head of Public Relations, Okeke Oluwaseyi Chika, also urged Nigerians to support rugby the same way they support football, emphasizing that the sport is putting the country on the global stage.
