The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has warned residents against sharing their National Identification Numbers (NIN) with individuals allegedly operating on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing concerns over possible misuse of personal data.
The warning was issued on Monday in a statement signed by the party’s state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, and made available to journalists in Osogbo.

According to the statement, the party advised residents to remain vigilant and to reject any attempt to obtain sensitive personal information under political, social or administrative pretences, describing such moves as suspicious.

Akande alleged that individuals linked to the APC were adopting deceptive tactics to collect personal data from unsuspecting members of the public, insisting that legitimate political activities do not require citizens to submit details such as their NIN to party agents.
He stated that no genuine political programme, engagement or membership drive demands the surrender of personal data, warning residents to treat such requests as a red flag.
The Accord chairman urged residents who encounter such situations to promptly report them to relevant authorities, including security agencies and regulatory bodies, for appropriate action.
He commended residents of the state for what he described as their vigilance and refusal to participate in activities they consider questionable.
Akande also referenced past political developments in the state, alleging that residents had previously experienced economic hardship linked to governance and political decisions, and claimed that the alleged collection of personal information was part of efforts to regain political relevance.
He maintained that the party remained committed to issue-based politics, respect for citizens’ rights and the protection of personal data across Osun State.
The Accord Party further called on security agencies and relevant institutions to closely monitor the situation and take steps to protect residents from potential exploitation and identity-related crimes.
