NLC Boycotts Meeting With FG, Insists on Nationwide Strike

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has insisted on embarking on its planned two-day warning strike scheduled for Tuesday September 5 and Wednesday September 6.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the NLC boycotted a meeting with the federal government on Monday.

The leadership of the organized labor totally exempted itself from a last-minute reconciliatory meeting convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong.

The meeting was aimed at averting the two-day warning strike already declared by the labour centre.

However, only the leadership of the Trade Union Congress, led by its President, Festus Osifo, attended the meeting slated for 3 pm but started at exactly 5:32 pm on Monday.

The NLC had in a communique jointly signed by its national president, Joe Ajaero and Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja declared a two-day warning strike starting from Tuesday.

The union attributed its strike decision to an alleged failure by the Federal Government to dialogue and engage stakeholders on how to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit, popular known as petrol, on the “poor masses”.

Already, the organised labour in August staged a one-day protest, which grounded activities in major cities across the country.
