NLC insists on social justice, equity, and transparent lawmaking
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Nigerians to totally reject what it described as a distorted or falsified tax law, warning that flawed fiscal policies could worsen hardship for workers and the wider population.
The labour union made the call on Wednesday, stressing that laws with far-reaching implications for citizens must be inclusive, transparent, and free from political manipulation.

In a statement titled “Our hope lies in collective action,” NLC President Joe Ajaero said policies affecting workers’ wages, pensions, and welfare must be carefully crafted to avoid serious errors that could harm the majority.
Ajaero emphasised the need for social and tax justice, insisting that Nigerians deserve access to quality healthcare, education, and security, while workers’ rights and rewards are protected.
“It is better to patiently craft a law that is broadly co-created and owned than rush into one filled with serious errors and outright political manipulations,” the statement read.
He added that Nigerians must insist on a society where labour is justly rewarded, rights are respected, and citizens can live and conduct their businesses without fear or intimidation.
The NLC president further noted that the strength of workers lies in unity and collective action, urging Nigerians to stand together against policies that inflict suffering and exploitation.
Ajaero also cautioned against divisions along tribal, religious, or regional lines, warning that such divisions weaken resistance to unjust policies.
