The Cross Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has embarked on an indefinite strike.
The commencement of the industrial action was contained in communique signed by the NMA State Chairman, Dr Felix Archibong, Secretary Dr Freeman Egbe and other members of the executive.

followed the abduction of their member, Professor Ekanem Ephraim.

It was said that Ephraim was kidnapped on July 13.
She was attending to patients at a clinic in Calabar when she was kidnapped.
The announcement, which was issued after an emergency meeting in Calabar on Sunday evening, included the complete cancellation of services.

The union ordered members “to embark on total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services effective immediately in solidarity with our member still in the hands of her abductors.
“This withdrawal of medical services involves all hospitals in Cross River State, including Federal, State, Private, Mission, and cottage hospitals.”
