BACKGROUND AND EARLY LIFE

Nnamdi Ezeigbo, who was born on August 4th, 1966, in Sapele, Delta State, was raised with an entrepreneurial drive.

He earned a Higher National Diploma in Electrical Electronics Engineering and a master’s degree in Information and Management Technology after completing his studies at Yaba College of Technology and Lagos State University, respectively. 

Later, he traveled to Ogbomosho, Oyo State’s Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, where he earned a master’s degree in information and management technology.

A graduate of the Lagos Business School, he also holds an MBA. His future endeavors have a solid basis thanks to these academic successes.

CAREER

Before starting his own business, Ezeigbo served as an apprentice, during which time he gained critical business and customer service skills.

After graduating, despite the lack of employment, he took into an apprenticeship on how to repair the computer for six months after which he took the chance to start his own business while squatting with a friend of his in Lagos, years later with the help of a longtime client who saw his potential he relocated to a much larger shop.

The old client bought some printers for him to sell, while Nnamdi used the revenue to start up a larger business for himself.

He paid 180,000 Naira for the new location where he sells his computers and later bought the place for 100 million Naira to start SLOT in 1998. And this is where his incredible career as an entrepreneur began.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND IMPACTS 

Nnamdi Ezeigbo recognized the expanding need for inexpensive phones in Nigeria by carefully analyzing the market’s requirements.

At a critical juncture, he proposed to NOKIA that they create a dual-SIM phone but was rejected.

Unfazed, he set out for China and proposed to TECNO phone manufacturers which they accepted.

They formed a successful business relationship that gave rise to the TECNO T101. By strategically leveraging branding, Ezeigbo established SLOT as a top TECNO phone distributor, completely changing the Nigerian mobile phone market.

Ezeigbo put forth the idea for the creation of Infinix mobile after realizing the demand for high-tech yet reasonably priced handsets.

SLOT’s success was aided by Infinix, which provided TECNO-like features and functionality with more advanced capabilities.

SLOT outlets can now be seen not only in Nigeria but also in other African nations, demonstrating Ezeigbo’s influence on the continent’s technological transformation.

The dedication of Nnamdi Ezeigbo to developing Nigerian youth goes beyond his business endeavors.

He established the Slot Foundation, a center for the development of vocational skills that gives young people the knowledge and abilities they need to launch their businesses or find employment with other companies.

Over 500 people have been effectively employed by the foundation, giving them chances for economic development and self-sufficiency.
