Nnamdi Kanu Faces Releases as FG Schedules Emergency Hearing

Detained supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has been scheduled for an emergency hearing today, Thursday December 2 by the federal government.

According to a report by SaharaReporters seen by Daily Report Nigeria, the move could see the embattled IPOB leader released on bail.

The move is a direct response by Igbo leaders seeking the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, Nigerian government legal team members told SaharaReporters.

“Nnamdi Kanu scheduled for an emergency hearing tomorrow that could lead to his release on bail.

“This is in response to Igbo elders’ request for his release,” one of the lawyers to the federal government was quoted on Wednesday.

Daily Report Nigeria can recall that
President Muhammadu Buhari had announced his desire to consider releasing the pro-Biafra agitator on Friday, November 19 when Igbo leaders paid him a visit.

While stating that the request by the Highly Respected Igbo Greats, led by First Republic parliamentarian and Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, was difficult, Buhari assured that he would give it a thought.

“You’ve made an extremely difficult demand on me as leader of this country. The implication of your request is very serious. In the last six years, since I became President, nobody would say I have confronted or interfered in the work of the Judiciary.

“God has spared you, and given you a clear head at this age, with very sharp memory. A lot of people half your age are confused already. But the demand you made is heavy. I will consider it.”

“I said the best thing was to subject him to the system. Let him make his case in court, instead of giving very negative impressions of the country from the outside. I feel it’s even a favour to give him that opportunity.

Mqzi Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria in June 2021.

He is currently standing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja for terrorism-related charges.
