  • The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a scheduled shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) for maintenance starting May 24, 2025.

  • According to NNPC’s spokesperson, Femi Soneye, the shutdown is for a “planned maintenance and sustainability assessment” to ensure the refinery’s optimal performance.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) to conduct scheduled maintenance and a sustainability assessment.

The shutdown will commence on May 24, 2025, and is part of NNPC’s efforts to improve refinery efficiency and reliability.

In a statement issued on Saturday, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, said, “This scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment will commence on May 24, 2025.”

He added that the exercise is aimed at ensuring the “optimal performance of the facility.”

Soneye emphasised NNPC’s collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that the process is “efficient and transparent.”

He reiterated that “NNPC Ltd remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable energy security.”

The company also stated that the public would be kept informed via its official website, media platforms, and formal announcements.

The PHRC was previously shut down in December 2024, just months after operations resumed following a major $1.5 billion rehabilitation project.
