Nigeria’s Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN) has confirmed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) remains the sole buyer of petrol from the Dangote Refinery.

This statement follows a meeting between IPMAN and Dangote Group executives, aimed at discussing direct sales of petrol to marketers.

Zonal Chairman for South-West IPMAN, Dele Tajudeen, revealed details of the meeting held on Monday with Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group.

He noted that despite previous announcements allowing marketers to purchase petrol directly, the existing agreement between NNPCL and the refinery still holds.

“We had a very useful and fruitful discussion on the direct purchase of products from the Dangote refinery,” Tajudeen said.

He explained that while there was confirmation from the Vice President of Dangote about directives from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Petroleum Resources to start direct sales, the agreement with NNPCL is still pending termination.

“Until and when the agreement is terminated by either party, the direct sales will still be on hold,” he added.

The situation arises as NNPCL recently raised petrol prices to N1,030 per liter in Abuja, continuing its adjustments after purchasing Dangote petrol.
