The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reiterated that no police officer has the right to search the phones of residents, underscoring the protection of citizens’ privacy and lawful conduct.

Speaking at a recent event, CP Olohundare Jimoh said, “No Policeman should search your phone on the road… I stand by that order.”

Residents welcomed the directive but warned that compliance in the field could be a challenge. Many stressed that while the order is clear, enforcement by all officers remains crucial.

One social media user on X claimed he handed over N50,000 to officers who demanded access to his phone. After finding nothing suspicious, they allegedly accused him of hiding incriminating apps.

The commissioner emphasized that officers must adhere strictly to lawful procedures and respect the rights of citizens. He encouraged Lagos residents to report any breach of the directive to ensure accountability.

This reiteration is part of broader efforts to strengthen accountable policing in Lagos State, protecting citizens’ rights while maintaining law and order.
