Novak Djokovic’s Italian Open 2025 withdrawal has shocked tennis fans worldwide.

The announcement came via social media, where the Rome Masters organizers posted:

> “Novak Djokovic has announced he won’t take part to #IBI25. See you next year, Nole.”

No official reason was provided for the 37-year-old Serbian star’s absence.

A Missed Chance at Title No. 100

  • A Tournament He’s Conquered Six Times

Djokovic’s withdrawal from the 2025 Italian Open denies him a shot at a record-extending seventh title in Rome — and the elusive milestone of his 100th ATP trophy.

His most recent triumph in the Italian capital came in 2022, and the event has traditionally played a vital role in his clay court season preparations ahead of Roland Garros.

  • No Trophy Yet in 2025

This season has been a struggle. Djokovic has yet to lift a trophy in 2025, with his last title win occurring at the Paris Olympics.

The lack of momentum going into the French Open could be a concern for the former world No. 1.

Djokovic’s Form Under Scrutiny

  • Recent Defeats and Early Exits

The Serbian star has faced a string of unexpected defeats.

In March, he lost the Miami Open final to Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.

His transition to clay has been equally rocky, suffering early exits at both the Monte Carlo Masters and Madrid Open.

In Madrid, Djokovic was eliminated by Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi, following a surprising first-match loss to Alejandro Tabilo in Monte Carlo.

These back-to-back defeats have fueled speculation about his readiness for the remainder of the season.

Eye Infection and Physical Concerns

  • Health Issues Could Be a Factor

Prior to the clay court swing, Djokovic revealed he had been dealing with the effects of an eye infection.

While it remains unclear whether this continues to affect his performance, it may explain his recent form and decision to skip Rome — a move that aligns with prioritizing recovery ahead of Roland Garros.

Looking Toward Roland Garros 2025

With the French Open just weeks away, Djokovic appears to be recalibrating his season.

The Novak Djokovic Italian Open 2025 withdrawal could be a strategic pause, aimed at preserving his energy and sharpening his form for the next Grand Slam.

Whether this gamble pays off remains to be seen, but fans and analysts alike will be watching his every move as he sets his sights on a potential 25th Grand Slam title.
