The Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) in Delta State, Chief Richard Odibo has announced that the 2023 Census and Housing Enumeration exercise will soon be conducted in Nigeria.
According to Odibo, the Commission was set to engage the presidency to carry out the exercise without any unnecessary delay.
It was learnt that the previous census and housing exercise was postponed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, just days before its commencement, to allow President Bola Tinubu to have some input.
Odibo said:
“We are very confident that the census will hold very soon, because Tinubu needs adequate data of Nigerians to work with, as he runs affairs of the nation.”

Speaking at a breakfast meeting with media executives in his office in Asaba, Odibo expressed confidence that the census will hold very soon, as Tinubu needed adequate data of Nigerians to work with as he runs affairs of the nation.
2023 Census: Questions On Religion, Ethnicity Would Not be Asked — NPC
The NPC commissioner emphasized the importance of accurate data and the need to avoid projections.
He announced that NPC was well-prepared to conduct a credible population census exercise.
The Commission has already expended significant resources on preparatory activities, and all necessary resources are in place.
The Commissioner said:
“The Commission is focusing on ensuring that all resources expended so far are safeguard, and that the nation does not need to start all over when the current administration approves a date for the exercise.”
The commissioner also stressed the importance of safeguarding the resources already expended, to avoid starting from scratch when a date for the exercise is approved.
According to him, the Commission had recruited, about one million workers for the assignment, and acquired Personal Digital Assistant devices with about five hundred thousand of them delivered across the states and configured.
Also, Odibo revealed that the Commission has made necessary arrangements for the storage and security of equipment to prevent damage and theft.
