Players and management team members of Akwa United survived an armed robbery attack along Ogoni road, Rivers State on their way from Ibadan after engaging Kwara United in a Nigeria Premier Football League matchday five encounter.

The Promise Keepers lost to Kwara Untied 2-1, their second defeat in five games already in this campaign.

The team bus reportedly ran into a roadblock mounted by hoodlums.

The driver, on knowing the illegal roadblock tried to reverse the bus to safety but the robbers approached the vehicle with dangerous weapons and smashed the window.

Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident and the team returned to Uyo safely afterwards.

Akwa United will host Remo Stars in their next league game on Sunday.
