The Imo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended two individuals suspected of vandalizing petroleum pipelines in the state.
State Commandant Mr. Basil Igwebueze announced the arrests on Wednesday in Owerri, the state capital, revealing that the suspects were apprehended in the Awarra area of Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area on August 17.

According to Igwebueze, the arrests were made based on credible intelligence, and the suspects will undergo thorough investigation and prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.
“We have escalated and heightened the intelligence of our men in overt and covert forms, as part of efforts to protect critical national assets and the nation’s economy,” he said.
The commandant also called on members of the public to provide verifiable information that could lead to the arrest of vandals, assuring that the identities of informants will always be protected.
The suspects, identified as farmers from Ubomiri, Emoha in Rivers State, claimed they were misled by one Mr. Kingdom, currently at large, to transport galvanized pipes into the bush at midnight.
