NSCDC Records 54 New MPox Cases In 25 States

NSCDC Records 54 New MPox Cases In 25 States | Daily Report Nigeria

  • The Nigeria Center For Disease Control and Prevention, NSCDC has reported 54 New cases of MPox.

  • Daily Report Nigeria gathers that this was made known via the agency’s latest epidemiological report published on its official website.

According to NSCDC, the 54 New cases recorded in Nigeria during the 39th week in 2024 shows the disease is being tackled as it marks a decline from the 75 cases reported in the previous week.

It said;

“The cumulative figures for 2024 show that 84 confirmed cases and 1,237 suspected cases have been reported so far this year,”

The health agency also added that despite the fluctuating rate of the disease, there has been no fatality as Nigeria has recorded zero deaths in 2024.

“Since the outbreak began in September 2017, Nigeria has reported 5,054 suspected cases and 1,170 confirmed cases, with males making up 68 per cent of confirmed cases, mostly aged 21 to 45,” it added

 

The public health agency noted that as of Week 39, 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory have reported confirmed cases of Mpox, affecting 57 Local Government Areas. Plateau, Delta, FCT, Katsina, and Imo states confirmed new cases in the past week.

The NCDC also educated citizens on some preventive measures, which includes proper hygiene, and protecting oneself while caring for suspected cases.

 

“The public is advised to exercise caution, particularly in states where cases have been reported. Citizens can contact the NCDC’s toll-free number (6232) for more information or to report suspected cases,” the agency advised.

Monkeypox, is a viral disease which symptoms such as fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.

To curb the stigmatization that comes with the disease, the World Health Organization, in 2022 renamed it as ‘Mpox’
