NSEMA Recovers 9 Bodies in Niger Boat Mishap

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed that nine bodies have been recovered following a boat accident in the Shiroro Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, resulted in the tragic loss of 10 lives, according to NSEMA.

The victims, mainly traders, were transporting goods from the Zongoru community to Gijiwa for the Friday market in Kuta when the accident happened.

It was disclosed that Local divers were able to rescue 22 individuals out of the reported 34 people on board.

The agency’s Head of Relief and Rehabilitation, Alhaji Salihu Garba further provided the names of the deceased, with two yet to be identified.

The victims were Farida Muntari, Sharhabila Sagir, Abubakar Sadiq, Na’ima Ibrahim, Amina, Safaratu Ibrahim, Sadiq Ibrahim, and Rafiya Yakubu.

Garba stated that the victims involved 24 male and female adults, 10 male and female children.

He disclosed that a search was ongoing to recover the remaining bodies.
