In a move that signals real intent to uplift the women’s game, the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has introduced a N24.5 million prize purse for teams competing in this year’s Super Six playoff.

The financial structure, according to league officials, aims not only to reward performance but also to recognize the hard work of every club involved.

The top team will walk away with N10 million, maintaining the same amount awarded to champions over the last two editions.

This consistency sends a clear message: the league is serious about building a sustainable reward system for female footballers.

Runners-Up and Third Place Get a Boost

Teams finishing in second and third places will not be left behind.

This time around, the runners-up will take home N6 million, while the third-placed side will collect N4 million.

Both figures represent a N1 million increase compared to what was paid out last season.

Even the Bottom Three Will Be Rewarded

Interestingly, the NWFL has also made provisions for the clubs that finish at the lower end of the table.

These teams will each receive N1.5 million, up from the N1 million awarded last season.

While it might not be a huge amount, it is a step in the right direction for clubs who often struggle with finances.

Four Teams Locked in Tight Title Race

With just a few games left, the title race is still wide open.

Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and Remo Stars Ladies are all still in the running, and the winner will be crowned on the final day of the season.

That last matchday is shaping up to be a thrilling one, with fans expecting fireworks as clubs give their all for glory and a hefty payday.

A Step Forward for Nigerian Women’s Football

This prize announcement is more than just a financial update as it reflects a larger shift happening in the Nigerian women’s game.

By upping the stakes, the NWFL is making a strong statement that women’s football deserves both respect and investment.

It is a gesture that goes beyond money.

It is about dignity, development, and ensuring players know their efforts are valued.

Final Thoughts

As anticipation builds for the climax of the Super Six, it is clear the 2025 edition will be remembered not just for the action on the pitch but for the progress being made off it.

The NWFL’s decision to boost prize money is a bold one and the kind of decision that can shape the future of the women’s league.

Fans will be watching closely, and clubs now have more than pride to play for.
