Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has berated Nigerian leaders for allowing resources built by colonial masters to waste away.
Obi, in an interview with Why Not Afrika, expressed regret that the River Niger, which has the potential to generate revenue and boost the country’s logistics system, has been left to waste.

He noted that the colonial masters built many resources in the Onitsha area of River Niger, which were generating revenue for the country, but were left to ruin by Nigerian leaders.
Obi stated, “Since colonial masters left, everything they built was allowed to destroy, because nobody cares about the society, nobody cares about the people. There are so many resources we have that they have never cared about.”
He added, “You won’t know the amount of waste in this country. This alone if properly utilized can help the entire logistics system. All transportation for farm products used to go through this facility.”

Obi further stated that he often doubts the essence of independence, given the level of waste and neglect of resources in the country.
He said, “That is why I ask the question, the essence of independence, because the black man has not contributed anything except wickedness.”
