  • Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State is rumoured to be on the way to the APC

  • The rumoured defection has raised concerns from within the ruling PDP in State.

  • A PDP chieftain in Okpe Council has joined those describing the rumours as laughable.

Amb. Dr. Temisan O. Louis, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 8, Okpe LGA, Delta State, has described rumors of Governor Oborevwori’s planned defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) as “laughable,” “mischievous,” and “a clear manifestation of the opposition’s desperation.”

According to Amb. Dr. Louis, “These baseless rumors are a distraction from the impressive achievements of Governor Oborevwori’s administration, which has brought unprecedented development and prosperity to Delta State. We are focused on consolidating our gains and delivering more dividends of democracy to our people.”

Amb. Dr. Louis emphasized that Governor Oborevwori remains committed to the PDP and its ideals, and that there is no truth to the rumors of his planned defection to the APC. He warned that the peddlers of these rumors are enemies of progress and unity in Delta State.

“The recent inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s new President, John Dramani Mahama, has sparked speculation about the potential defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“However, we can confidently say that the Governor’s attendance at the ceremony, alongside other APC members and leaders, is not a valid reason to suspect his defection.

“The inauguration ceremony, held on January 7, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square in Accra, was a grand event that attracted national and international attention. As a representative of the Nigerian government, Governor Oborevwori’s attendance was a courtesy and a sign of goodwill between the two nations.

“His presence, accompanied by other APC members and leaders, was simply a diplomatic gesture and not an indication of his political affiliations.

“It is essential to note that Governor Oborevwori has been a loyal member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has worked tirelessly to promote the party’s ideals and values.

“His commitment to the PDP is unwavering, and there is no credible evidence to suggest that he plans to defect to the APC.

“In fact, Governor Oborevwori’s administration has been focused on delivering on its campaign promises and improving the lives of Delta State citizens.

“His attendance at the inauguration ceremony was merely a reflection of his dedication to strengthening regional ties and promoting peace and cooperation between nations.

“We urge the public to disregard speculation and rumors surrounding Governor Oborevwori’s defection and instead focus on the issues that matter. The Governor’s commitment to the PDP and the people of Delta State remains unwavering, and we should not be distracted by unfounded rumors and speculation.”
