A contender for the Oporomo kingship stool in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Newstyle Ogiren has called on Governor Sheriff Oborewori to remove the traditional ruler of Oporomo kingdom, HRM. Dr. Ekioemi Oweiagbe from the subsidy palliative committee.
Ogiren in his call to Governor Oborevwori, cited a court order restraining the monarch from functioning.
In a statement on Friday, Ogiren argued that the appointment of the monarch into the committee amounts to an abuse of court process following his alleged restraining order.
The litigant emphasised that the government of Delta State should be neutral or seeking peace among rival groups and not to take sides, adding that the appointment of the restrained king into a subsidy palliative committee in Burutu could incite bad blood in the kingdom.

He further called on Governor Oborewori to display respect for court process by removing the king from being a member of the subsidy palliative committee to avoid litigations against the state government
No court order restraining me – HRM Ekioemi
When contacted, HRM Ekioemi noted that there was no court order restraining him from performing his duties as traditional ruler of Oporomor Kingdom.
The monarch explained that the court only restrained the Delta State Government from fulfilling the payment his royalties and not his functions as a king.
He said, “there is no court order restraining me from performing my duties as the traditional ruler of the Oporomo people.
“The Ughelli High Court only restrained the Delta State Government from paying me my royalties pending any further judgment and that is still in effect. Nothing more than that.”
Ekioemi added that his appointment into the subsidy palliative committee is only a service to his people and nothing of personal interest.
Meanwhile, the court in its ruling in the suit marked UNC/94/2023 between MR. NEWSTYLE EGIRENWAREKAEMI AND DCN BARR KINGSLEY OTUARO (His Excellency, Deputy Gov Of Delta State), HRM (DR) OWEIAGBE JOHN EKIOEMI, CHIEF BARE ETOLOR, CHIEF TUDUO GABRIEL AND OTHERS, on 8/5/2023 granted an order of Interim Injunction Restraining the 1 2″ 4″ 5″ 6″ 7″ & 8″ Respondents from having dealings with the 3 Respondents with regard to payments of Allowances, Royalties etc either through his agents, privies, servants etc pending the determination of the motion on notice herein.
“And for such further or other orders as this Honourable Court may deem fit to make in the circumstances,” the judgment delivered by Justice Gesikeme Akebofah Angonumere Mary added in part.
