The Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its 25-day-old strike, giving the state government a four-week ultimatum to meet their demands. The association instructed its members to return to work on Monday, September 2, 2024.

According to the chairman, Dr. OgunJimi Luqman, the decision was made during an emergency general meeting to facilitate constructive dialogue with the state government. “The congress reviewed the strike’s effectiveness and members’ compliance. The Congress acknowledges the hardship caused to the people of Ogun State due to the government’s failure to respond to doctors’ demands,” he said.

Luqman stated that the association initiated the strike in response to the state government’s inability to enforce the revised CONMESS wage, which was first disbursed to federal counterparts in June 2023.

He emphasized that the association is anticipating the state government to address their requests during this four-week suspension to prevent additional industrial discord.
