The Ogun State Government has closed Obada Grammar School following the death of a student, Monday Arijo, believed to have been caused by corporal punishment.

A teacher involved has been arrested and suspended, and the school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, has also been suspended for allowing the punishment.

Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered the closure and mandated an investigation into the incident. State officials visited the deceased student’s family to express condolences and collect information for the investigation, pledging accountability and support.

A cash gift of N500,000 was also given to the family.

The government emphasized its commitment to ensuring student safety and a supportive school environment.
