  • Governor Okpebholo assured the public that his administration would decisively deal with criminal elements and make the State uninhabitable for them.

  • He emphasised collaboration between communities and security agencies as a central strategy.

In a move to address growing security concerns in Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo convened a closed-door security summit in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area, bringing together political leaders, traditional rulers, religious heads, and security operatives.

Speaking after the meeting, Okpebholo assured citizens that his administration would not allow criminal elements to destabilize the State.

“Under my watch, they will not succeed. We will make Edo uninhabitable for criminal activities,” he said.

He stressed that the meeting was aimed at ensuring lasting peace across Edo North and the entire State. “We had fruitful deliberations. Let us watch it from here. Things will be perfect in our land,” he added.

Former Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, applauded Okpebholo’s initiative, calling it unprecedented.

“This is the first time a Governor is doing this. During my time, I didn’t hold such meetings. The Governor came to hear directly from the people,” he said.

Oshiomhole confirmed that vehicles and motorcycles had been provided to security agencies to boost operations, and praised efforts to involve local communities in intelligence gathering.

Also speaking, Bishop Gabriel Dunia of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi lauded the gathering and emphasized unity in the fight against insecurity. “People have spoken their minds, and we will work with that to ensure peace,” he said.

The summit also featured contributions from prominent Edo stakeholders, including Minister Abubakar Momoh, former Deputy Governors, and other dignitaries, all pledging their support toward a safer Edo State.
