Nigerian singer Omah Lay has shared his appreciation for the “Afro-Depression” label that fans have given to his music. In a recent interview with Billboard, Omah Lay explained that this label shows that listeners truly connect with and understand his music without needing any explanation from him.

Omah Lay’s music is known for its deep emotional and sentimental qualities, often exploring themes such as pain, hurt, loneliness, and the challenges that come with fame. His debut album “Boy Alone” and the hit song “Soso” are prime examples of this introspective and melancholic sound, which has led fans to describe his style as “Afro-Depression.”

The singer sees this label as a sign that he has created something unique and meaningful that resonates with people around the world. He expressed his satisfaction by saying,

“I definitely love it. I love that I started a new movement and my music started something new that I didn’t have to come out and tell people that my music is ‘Afro-Depression.’ My fans made it up, and I didn’t have to explain. It’s great to witness that I can just make music and the world can decide what it is, and it becomes a movement.”
