Afrobeats star Omah Lay has reflected on how his imprisonment in Uganda positively impacted his life and career.

Omah Lay and Tems were detained in Uganda for three days in December 2020 after performing at a concert in violation of COVID-19 regulations. They were released on bail after their arrest.

In a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah revealed that the experience profoundly changed his view on freedom.

He now cherishes his freedom more and channels this newfound appreciation into his music. “Being in that cell for three days made me value my freedom even more. I now fight for it with every song,” he said.
