He said:
“But honestly, should we be politicising the Holy Communion? I am not sure the Pope would approve of this. The Catholic Church that I know was a apolitical. If you meet the 5 conditions for receiving the Holy Eucharist, no priest should deny you of partaking in such a sacred rite, even if you have no PVC.
To the best of my knowledge, the five conditions for a professing Catholic to receive the Catholic Holy Communion are:
1. You must be in a state of grace.
2. You must have been to confession since your last mortal sin.
3. You must believe in Church doctrine regarding Transubstantiation.
4. You must observe the Eucharist Fast.
5. You must not have been excommunicated, or otherwise censured by the Catholic Church.
Once you meet the five conditions listed above, why would any priest deny you the right to take Communion because you do not have a PVC?
I am being objective here. I said the same thing when the RCCG set up a political directorate. Before we allow religious organisations push political agendas, we must realise that there are other religions in Nigeria, who have the capacity to play this game. Let us not start what we cannot finish!
