More than 5,000 students across different secondary schools in Akoko North East Local Council Area of Ondo State have benefitted from an education support initiative spearheaded by the council chairman, Mohammed Mutiu.

The distribution exercise, which took place over the weekend, saw schools including Agboriki Comprehensive High School, College Ikare Secondary School, AUD Secondary School, Osele Comprehensive High School, Comprehensive Secondary School Ikare, and Ise Akoko High School receive free educational materials.

Speaking during the exercise, Mutiu explained that the programme was designed to promote quality education and boost students’ academic performance. He stressed that his administration remains committed to investing in education as a way of securing the future of young people and fostering community development

He disclosed that the intervention included exercise books, writing materials, and textbooks. According to him, more support will be rolled out to ensure that no student is left behind in accessing quality education.

The council chairman appealed to parents and guardians to encourage their wards to develop a reading culture and maintain discipline. He urged the students to remain focused on their studies and assured them that his administration would continue to prioritise education.

Mutiu also revealed plans to renovate dilapidated classrooms and expand learning facilities to provide a more conducive environment for both teachers and students. He noted that education remains the strongest tool to tackle poverty and insecurity, stressing the need for collective support from stakeholders.

The initiative received backing from Eduminds Africa, an organisation committed to promoting quality education and raising awareness on climate change.
