Farmers protest over incessant attacks and killings in Akure North.
The recent raid by armed herds claimed five farmers and injured others.
There has been an outrage in Akure North, Ondo State as farmers took to the street to decry against the destruction of crops and killing of farmers in the area by herdsmen.
The incident which happened the early hours of Wednesday at Aba Oyinbo community in Akure North Local Government Area erupted into tension and wild fear as angry protesters took to the streets after suspected herdsmen allegedly killed five farmers and destroyed vast farmlands.
Daily Report gathered that assailants suspected to be herdsmen opened fire in the community killing five persons.
According to an eyewitness, the attack happened in the wee hours of Wednesday as armed herdsmen reportedly stormed the farming community, and opened fire on farmers who resisted the destruction of their crops by cattle . They killed five people and injures several others.

In reaction to the brutal killing, enraged farmers and aggrieved members of the public took to street protest.
The protesters stormed the Governor’s Office in large numbers, chanting solidarity songs and calling on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene and halt the unrelenting attacks on farmers.
One of the protesters who spoke on behalf of the group called on the governor to come to the aid of farmers in the community.
He said, “We are being slaughtered without anyone doing anything. Akure North is under siege. We are farmers, not criminals. We are appealing to the governor, the police, the army, and Amotekun to save us before more lives are lost,”
Report reaching out desk confirmed that there is a perceived infiltration of assailants from Edo to the community.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the attack and stated that investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. Security agencies, including the State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), have been deployed to strategic locations to maintain order and prevent further violence.
Furthermore, the governor of Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has condemned the attack and assured residents that the state government is committed to enhancing security measures to protect lives and property. He urged the community to remain calm while law enforcement agencies carry out their duties.
The issue of herdsmen menace has been a big challenges threatening lives and farming in Ondo State. Barely two weeks ago, about 14 persons were reportedly murdered by gunmen in four communities: Ademekun, Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, and Alajido in the same Akure North local government area.
