One Dead, Others Injured as Gas Explodes in Ogun | Daily Report Nigeria

One son has been reported dead in a gas explosion that occured along Folagbade road, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Two others were also left critically injured in the uncongenial incident that took place on Monday morning.

Sources say the explosion occuredaround 8am and involved a tricycle, three motorcycles and a Honda SUV.

It was a gas cyinder of one of the passengers in the tricycle that brought about the explosion as said by an eye witness.

The explosion incited when the passenger alighted beside a car with faulty radiator to fix the leaking cylinder.

In the course of doing that, the occupant was oblivious of the faulty car whose bonnet was open, thereby triggering the explosion from the heat generating by the car.

The source said, “The owner of the cylinder had just refilled it with gas and unknown to her, the cylinder was leaking.”

“The rider of the tricycle parked by the roadside for the woman to fix the leaking cylinder, but unfortunately, there was a car with radiator problem parked nearby.”

“The heat generated by the car triggered explosion.”

An eye witness added that the victims who suffered third-degree burns were subsequently taken to an anonymous hospital following the rejection at the state General hospital.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, The Public Relations Officer of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps substantiated it that three motorcycles, one Honda SUV and the tricycle were all burnt.

Akinbiyi also declared the serious burn injury suffered by the passengers of the tricycle and that they have been taken to hospital.

He however disclosed that he could not ascertain if an anyone died in the explosion.
