The Ijaw Youth Council, Operemor Clan has called for peace ahead of the elections in Ojobo community.
Addressing news men on Tuesday, Operemor IYC Chairman, Comrade Elvis Asamaziba, charged aspirants to prioritize brotherhood ahead of the elections.
Asamaziba lamented that the recurring spate of youths dying during Ojobo elections does not tell well on the community’s image as headquarters of Operemor kingdom.
The youth leader beckoned on “leaders and stakeholders to embrace peace during and after the elections,” saying “we are first brothers before opponents”.

“I’m from Orugbene Community, in Operemor Clan, and Ojobo community is the headquarters of Operemor Kingdom. We have about 9 communities in Operemor Kingdom. Ojobo community is the headquarters of the kingdom and as such, other communities have to learn from Ojobo.
“If Ojobo community record one or two deaths during every election, that means the next ten years, there will be a lot of deaths recorded.
“Therefore, we should shun violence and conduct free, fair and credible election come Saturday.”
Asamaziba subsequently called on the electoral committee to conduct a free and fair election in the election slated for Saturday May 18, 2024.
