- Godswill Akpabio says opposition parties are disorganised
- Comments made during reception for Oluremi Tinubu in Uyo
- Criticises opposition for starting political activities before Independent National Electoral Commission timeline
- Says ruling party remains focused ahead of 2027 Nigerian general election
Nigeria’s Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said opposition parties in the country will remain in confusion until the 2027 Nigerian general election, accusing them of lacking coordination and direction.
Speaking during a reception held in honour of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in Uyo, Godswill Akpabio criticised the activities of opposition political parties.

According to him, the actions of opposition groups suggest internal confusion, particularly their decision to begin political mobilisation ahead of the official timeline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC had earlier scheduled August 26, 2026 as the official start date for political campaigns ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general election.
Akpabio argued that the early political manoeuvring by opposition parties demonstrates disorganisation within their ranks.
“Each time we make a law and the opposition frowns, I get excited that I’ve made the right law,” he said.
The Senate President added that while the ruling party continues consultations and political mobilisation nationwide, opposition parties are still struggling to organise themselves.
His remarks come amid increasing political activity across Nigeria as political parties begin positioning ahead of the next general elections.
