Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, says Donald Trump’s comment on insecurity in Nigeria should not be dismissed as an exaggeration. Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja, Kalu said that people are dying from violent attacks in different parts of the country, whether they are Christians or Muslims.

“Let’s be truthful,” he said. “People are being killed. In Plateau, most victims are Christians; in Zamfara, they are Muslims. These attackers are extremists, and they want to destabilize Nigeria.”

Kalu revealed that he has spoken to two former U.S. presidents, one Republican and one Democrat, as well as more than 60 U.S. lawmakers. According to him, they are willing to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.

He added that Nigeria’s military operations in recent days could be linked to intelligence shared by the U.S. authorities.

Identifying himself as “pro-America,” Kalu urged Nigeria to deepen its security collaboration with Washington. However, he accused the U.S. and Western allies of indirectly fuelling Africa’s security crisis.

“When Gaddafi and Saddam were removed, weapons flooded Africa. America contributed to this problem,” he said. “But since they pride themselves as the leader of the free world, they should help restore order.”

On internal politics, Kalu dismissed claims that there were plots to remove the Senate President, saying the Senate is stable and fully behind President Tinubu’s economic and security agenda.

“As you can see, the Senate is calm,” he said. “We are focused on passing laws that will help the economy recover.”

Kalu also reacted to the recent wave of politicians joining the APC, saying no one is being forced into the ruling party.

“I work 100% for the APC,” he said. “I will support the President and every APC candidate.”

On Anambra politics, he predicted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo will eventually join the APC once legal matters are settled.

“Soludo is a progressive. He has no choice but to join us,” Kalu said confidently.

Looking ahead, Kalu declared that Tinubu remains the strongest political force ahead of 2027, saying opposition parties lack a united front.

“2027 will be Tinubu versus Tinubu. There is no cohesive opposition,” he said.

While acknowledging the economic hardship Nigerians are facing, he believes ongoing reforms will pay off.

“As a businessman, I know things are tough, but there is progress. The key is getting relief to ordinary Nigerians,” he stated.
