The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has declared three days of mourning following the death of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The mourning period, set to run from Thursday, November 7 to Saturday, November 9, 2024, will see flags flown at half-mast across the state in honor of the late military leader.

In a statement released by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government expressed deep sorrow at the loss of General Lagbaja, calling it “a colossal loss to humanity and the nation.” The statement further described the late COAS as one of the “glories of Osun State,” particularly highlighting his contributions to both the military and the state.

The government has also opened Condolence Registers at the Government House and the Governor’s Office in Osogbo, allowing the people of Osun to pen their tributes to the deceased.

The state government extended condolences to his family, particularly the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and all residents of the area.

The statement also noted that the late COAS’s untimely death leaves a profound impact, especially in his home state.

Governor Adeleke, in his personal tribute, described the loss as “irreparable” and reassured the people of Osun that the state would continue to remember and honor General Lagbaja’s contributions. He added, “We pray that his soul rests in Aljanna Firdaus.”
