A former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and candidate of the Labour Party, LP in the July 2022 Osun State governorship election, Lasun Yusuf, has dumped the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Yusuf was received into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a presidential rally in Osun on Wednesday, and declared his support for Atiku Abubakar.
Governor Ademola Adeleke made the announcement of Lasun’s defection to the PDP while speaking at the campaign rally in Osogbo, the state capital.

The campaign rally was attended by PDP bigwigs including the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, the party’s national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and the PDP Presidential Campaign Council chairman, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
Recall that Lasun was deputy speaker of the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He, however, dumped the APC in March 2022 following his defeat in the governorship primary of the party.
He defected to the Labour Party where he was given the ticket to contest the Osun governorship election.
Lasun finished fifth in the Osun election with 2,729 votes.
