Calls on Ijaw journalists to remain truthful, fearless and united
The Coordinator of the Federal Amnesty Programme, High Chief Dr Dennis Otuaro, has charged members of the Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF) to uphold the principles of objective, ethical and factual journalism in telling the Ijaw and Niger Delta story.
Otuaro gave the charge at the second Ijaw Media Conference held in Warri, Delta State, where he was represented by the National Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC).

He said he was encouraged by the coming together of Ijaw journalists to project the Ijaw struggle from a dynamic and progressive perspective.

“I am happy that Ijaw journalists have boldly come together to champion the Ijaw struggle in a very dynamic way,” Otuaro said.
Quoting former United States President Thomas Jefferson, Otuaro noted the power of the media in shaping governance and public perception.
“If I am asked to choose between the people of America and the media, I will choose the media, because the media can make or mar any government if they choose to do so,” he said.
According to him, the emergence of the Ijaw Publishers Forum has helped correct years of wrong reportage and misrepresentation of Ijaw history and struggles, particularly by foreign media.
Otuaro said the Ijaw story had been distorted for decades, but noted that IPF’s intervention has begun to change the narrative positively.
He, however, challenged Ijaw media practitioners to remain objective, truthful, accurate and fearless in their reportage in order to address long-standing anomalies surrounding the Ijaw struggle.
Otuaro also urged members of the forum to see themselves as brothers, work in unity, and uphold mutual love in the discharge of their duties, stressing that collective effort is essential to achieving a common goal.
