Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice President-elect, has called on Nigerians to prepare for a potentially turbulent start to the incoming administration of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
In his address on Friday at the 2023 Presidential Inauguration Public Lecture at the National Mosque in Abuja, Shettima highlighted the challenges facing the nation, including the burden of the oil subsidy and the negative impact of the multiple exchange rates system on the economy.
He urged Nigerians to brace themselves for what could be a difficult beginning for the new administration.

Shettima emphasized that the incoming administration does not have the luxury of time, given the enormity of the challenges facing the nation.
He stressed the need for urgent action to address the issues of the oil subsidy and the multiple exchange rates system, which he described as a drain on the national economy and a source of dual economic systems.
He called on Nigerians to support the new administration in its efforts to tackle these challenges.
Despite the challenges ahead, Shettima expressed his extreme optimism about the incoming administration and its ability to overcome the obstacles facing the nation.
Shettima said;
“The starting point might not be rosy, let me be very honest with you. The oil subsidy has become an albatross around our necks.
“The multiple exchange rates system is a drain on the national economy and creates a dual economic system. There are certain decisions that the new administration will take, but in the fullness of time, Nigerians will come not only to appreciate but also to celebrate us.
“As the Chinese will say, ‘The worst curse that a Chinese man may wish on you is for you to live in interesting times.’ And indeed, we are living in interesting times. But rest assured that in the fullness of time, Nigerians will come to pay glowing tributes to Bola Tinubu.”
