Over 30 killed As Bandits Invade Sokoto Market | Daily Report Nigeria

Bandits have attacked Goronyo market in Goronyo LGA of Sokoto state, killing not less than 30 persons.

The attack was said to have occurred at the market between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Sokoto police spokesman, Sanusi Abubakar, confirmed the incident.

Governor of the state, Aminu Tambuwal, also confirmed the incident during a meeting with chief of army staff, Faruk Yahaya.

According to a statement by spokesman to the governor, Muhammad Bello, the former speaker of the House of Representatives spoke on the development during a courtesy visit by the army chief to the government house in Sokoto.

Tambuwal was quoted as saying: “Between last night, yesterday evening till this morning, we were greeted with a very dastardly attack in Goronyo local government, particularly Goronyo township, where scores and tens have lost their lives and still counting,”

“We’re not sure of the figure. But it is 30 something.”

Speaking further during the visit by Yahaya, Tambuwal said the chief of Army staff visited the state “at a very trying moment for the army and the Nigerian nation”.

“We’re faced and bedevilled by many security challenges in our own area here, particularly banditry, kidnapping and other associated crimes,”.
